Citroen C5 - ANTI POLLUTION SYSTEM FAULT - Flash Gordon

Hi,

I just bought a C5 2.2 VTX plus HDi 173 Auto with Sat Nav (57 plate) yesterday. The owners manual was not provided with the sale as they did not have it. The vehicle drives good. There are some small problems like i could feel the Air con was not exactly working well which i possibly can figure out and is not heart stopping. Purchased and drove 90 miles to my place and almost reaching home, i saw the Anti Pollution system faulty sign come up and the engine light switched on on the dash board.

Any advises. I have booked the vehicle with a Citroen dealer for tomorrow and he says he has to do a diagnostic check.

I thought I got a good bargain at 2250. But after reading some reviews of the similar or different problems in the similar vehicles or different models, i am a bit worried if i have made a wrong decision to get a citroen. Do i have to try and return it to the sellers and opt for something else. I will need the car for my biz purpose and being a start up one i do not want to be spending a fortune on repairs.

Can some one help and advise whether this problem is negligible or it is not worth keeping the vehicle at all.

regards

Pretty well all modern diesels are subject to this sort of problem but I would say that the Citroen/Peugeot diesels are better than many others, I have two. If you can't do the work yourself you need to find a good independant repairer, they are usually much cheaper than the dealer. The problem is possibly a clogged DPF but a diesel specialist would be best for a diagnosis.

I have the earlier 2.0.Hdi engines which are much simpler, both of which have covered around 200,000 miles now and are still good, the problem with any modern diesel is that as the polution requirements tighten up the engines become more complicated.

Unless you are doing a high mileage, I hate to say this, but you might be better off with a petrol engine but if you do then you are better off with the diesel.

The problem is more likely is the car being low on Eloy fluid if you have only just bought it from a dealer take it back and ask them to repair it.
