QQ Tekna - Insurance for the aged and wicked - Gerry Sanderson

After 60plus years of no claims 4 years ago I was involved in a minor shunt when my foot slipped off the foot brake and jabbed the accelerator and i lurched forward into the rear of the car in front. Offers to deal with the matter other than through Insurance met with a refusal.

Despite the fact of my age now 88yrs, previous record and I have submitted myself to two hourly sessions of driver ability assessment as A no problem, the shunt and age, has resulted in a four fiqure premium and I dread renewal next month,

Feeding full details into comparison sites I cringe at some of the fiqures quoted. The lowest quotes have names I do not recognise an have poor rating on Trust Pilot

Is there any ancient senior citizens on site that have a good relationship with and feel treated fairly by their Insurance that they can recommend?

I'm 19 years younger than you, so can't comment how they might be in the unlikely event i manage to reach your impressive years, however i find Direct Line good to deal with, and they do not (or did not last time i looked) subscribe to the comparison sites instead have their own website.

If you live in a rural area NFU might be worth a call.

Had just that for a neighbour at 89, (but I don't like his driving) minor shunt, Quotes north of £1000. but hesitant about driving anyway.

Sold his car, got £8000 for it, Can walk to shops, Bus stop 50 yds from him and us.Daughter lives less than a mile away

Local taxi driver who takes cash from us fortunate few and just deals with his regulars.

No worries about parking.

Ok if you have good transport links, Here Colchester mainline station 1000 yds away and buses pass here in each direction not less than 3 times an hour up to 6 pm and then hourly, but not everyone in that situation.

Finding a good broker seems the obvious answer.

Cornmarket, who do the policies for Advanced Motorists, did a good job for me 7 years ago when major health issues saw DVLA suspending my licence for 10 months - after a lot of to-fro they arranged a policy in my name which retained my NCD but with me specifically excluded from driving - obviously changed back when DVLA eventually restore my licence.

Thank you Gordon Bennet for that heads up Direct Line. Just done a quote with them and they lead the field in savings. Much appreciated

Good news, thanks for the update.

They increase my premiums most years but a quick peruse of MSE's comparison site for alternatives followed by a phone call to their always helpful renewals people has so far worked, to be fair to them, and like yourself i wouldn't want to be insured by some never heard of outfit, i only relay quotes from what i think are equivalent companies, i also renew there and then on the phone with them so the renewals person who's spent time jiggling things about gets the commission.

Wifey's car is now on DL too as is the house insurance, Saga wouldn't play ball with her at renewal time, DL was probably 2/3rds their offer.

If they've beaten the others for you hopefully be able to continue with them for our future needs too.

As for Cornmarket many other lorry drivers and myself used to be with them when they were called Adelaide (from memory don't quote me), but the constant phone badgering come renewal time and having to sit through the mind numbing barely decipherable pre recorded Ts & C's before actually renewing became too tedious to bother with.

Cornmarket quoted me in a link from IAM when I passed the advanced driving test.

Their quote was one and a half times my insurance with LV=, which struck me as rather strange.

Subsequent offers from them in following years were also very expensive.
