Mazda CX-5 - Windscreen wipers not returning to rest positon - Caunch

I bought this car from new one year ago and have had completely trouble free motoring until a few weeks ago. The windscreen wipers had worked perfectly but now when I turn the ignition off when it is raining they do not return to the rest/home/lay flat position. This happens in continuous or auto mode with them stopping where ever they are mid sweep when the ignition is turned off.

The Mazda dealership has checked out the problem and say there is nothing wrong and they are operating as any other car does. I have owned cars that did exactly this but not for the last 40 years or so. They were unable to answer why this problem did not exist during many months of use or why my previous Mazda never did this during the entire time I owned it.

A quick internet search for causes seems to cover mainly mechanical problems that would cause the wipers not to function.

I'd like to hear anyone's thoughts on why a dealership would give me what I consider to be an incorrect explanation.

Really can’t believe what the dealership is telling you . There obviously is a problem and they need to fix it . Can you compare the wipers operating system to a similar vehicle?

I can confirm that on my CX-5, if the wipers are in mid-sweep when the ignition is turned off, they will stop instantly, not returning to the "parking" position.

Never given it a second thought. Does it matter?

That’s pretty much standard on most cars . Ignition off when the wipers are sweeping , arms will stop on the screen . Don’t think it’s a problem.

I think the only car which completed a sweep after turning off the ignition were my mid 2000s Audi A3s. I had to flick the wiper stalk with ignition off to get them to move slightly upwards to change the blades as they tucked behind the edge of the bonnet when parked.

Every other car if mid sweep and ignition switched off wipers stayed where they were.

The wipers on my 2019 Ibiza self park when turning the ignition off. They have a service mode, to raise the wiper arms, to allow the blades to be replaced.

If the OP is correct with his observations, does it matter? As long as they self park when you turn the wiper switch off.

More chance of the garage damaging the car trying to fix the issue. I would leave it as it is.

Thanks everyone

It's not a real problem just an irritation. I honestly can't remember this happening on this or recent previous cars. Maybe I'm just mistaken.

Thanks for the replies.
