Our car was stolen and damaged - why do we lose our excess and our full No Claims Bonus?

The locked house we were asleep in was broken into and our car keys were stolen. The car was stolen and damaged. We have to pay our £400 excess, but why do we also lose our full No Claims Bonus?

It's because you're making a claim on your policy. If you have a full No Claims Bonus then you won't lose them all, just a proportion. Generally down from 60 per cent to 40 per cent. Unless you have Protected No Claims, they are always affected when you make a claim if there's no third party to be claimed against.
