How can I reduce my fuel usage in my Ford C-Max?

I'm tied into a finance deal for the next 18 months because I got a really bad deal, because of bad credit rating. Since then I've managed to get a new field sales job where I use my own car - a Ford C-Max petrol (the one on finance). The problem is the fuel economy. I receive 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and then it drops to 25p. I've already done 10,000 miles in four months. I was considering an LPG conversion or possibly buying a cheap diesel Ford Focus for £1500 to tide me over until I can buy a better car. What do you think?

What if the cheap diesel suffers a major breakdown? Just doesn't make any financial sense. The best you can do is drive with a lighter foot. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/renault/renault-cl...o
