Is it a good idea to buy an imported Toyota Prius?

I'm thinking of replacing my Vauxhall Corsa with a used Toyota Prius. I have read all I can find on your excellent website about such imports and the Shaken Test in Japan, but some UK car sales websites advertise relatively new models with low mileage and a very low price. Is it a good idea to buy such cars? If so, why are they so cheap?

They are cheap because they were bought at Japanese scrap prices. Obviously if something goes seriously wrong you have no comeback whatsoever against Toyota in the UK; only against the dealer who sold the car to you. But probably worth the risk.
