Why doesn't my car reach it's official MPG figures?

I own a 2013 Nissan Qashqai 2.0. In your review of the car, you mention MPG Extra Urban 45.6 mpg. What is Extra Urban? I don't get anywhere near 45.6mpg.

It's part of the NEDC 11 kilometre lab test cycle and, of course, the only figure that was available at the time of the test. Now that 2013 cars have been driven for four years, the only figure you should pay any attention to at all is Real MPG: www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg/nissan/qashqai-2007/
