Why is my car overheating?

Every time I drive my car I'm driving for no longer than 15 minutes and it starts overheating. I therefore then have to pull over on the side of the road for 20 minutes for it to cool down before I can drive it again. What could be the problem?

Either the thermostat is stuck shut or the engine block temp sensor/sender fan switch is not working, or the electric radiator fan motor is not working.
