What should I do about a 'flat spot' when accelerating my 2007 BMW 320d?
Since purchasing the above vehicle in May of this year, I notice that when pulling away from standing the engine almost stalls unless I increase the revs. It's difficult to balance the car and the acceleration. Also, when changing up through the gearbox, I can push the accelerator to the floor without response for about a third of a second before I get any pull. I have reported this to the BMW dealer I purchased it from, who inform me that this is normal. It seems dangerous to me.

Given that you have recently purchased the car, do you still have some form of warranty on it? If so, then you should continue to pursue this problem with BMW until it's resolved. Even if they say that there is no fault, you should get a written report saying as such (dated) and keep all records of meetings and phone calls. The reason for this is that should the car develop the fault at a later date, you have the info to support your claim. Given the age of the car, I would continue to pursue this problem quite strongly with the dealer.
