Best used car for motorway driving - Honda Civic or BMW 3 Series?

I need to change my car and have a choice between a 2013 Honda Civic 1.6 i-DTEC Sport (41,000 miles) or a 2012 BMW 316d with 46,300 miles on the clock. I cover 35,000 miles a year on motorways and need an economical, safe and reliable car to drive. Which would you recommend as the best buy?

The 316d can be very economical but is also very short of torque. I'd go for the Honda Civic 1.6iDTEC, and expect 60 to 65mpg.
