Which winter tyres for my Volvo V70?

Please can you tell me how I calculate the wheel and tyre size for a 2005 Volvo V70? I want to put winter tyres on steel wheels for the coming winter. Clearly, the wheels will be a smaller diameter than the standard alloys and the tyres to fit. Do you have a particular view of which winter tyre? And costs?
