Buying petrol automatic hatchback - Golf or Mazda 3?

I am looking to buy 1-2 year old petrol automatic hatchback with decent power and fuel economy for commuting 17 miles each way. Half is stop and go traffic and other half motorway. Annual mileage is 10k.

I really like the Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI DSG, but am concerned about reliability. Also like Mazda 3, but auto is only 120PS. Are there other options?

Get the Mazda. Much better automatic transmission.
