Buying a second car - what should we get?

We have up to £5500 to buy a second car for local runs, shopping and dog walks. We would like a small comfy car with a flat load area suitable for two large dogs. We think a manual petrol engine will be best and hope it will last us for at least five years. What should be on our short list alongside a Honda Jazz?

A Ford Fusion might suit you. Station wagon version of the previous Fiesta with a flat rear load sill. Not great cars but no diesel particular filter worries. However, if you can find a Mk II Jazz for your money, even a 1.2 Jazz, that's a better car.
