Bangernomics - can you give me some pointers

I am looking for a used car. I am quite a fan of the term "Bangernomics" which was coined by James. It essentially means buying a used car which has depreciated to a point where it appears desirable for the budget market. As above I will be looking for vehicles which will generally be older with higher mileages naturally. I was wondering how I decide between a petrol or diesel in general and based on the information provided above.

Read James Ruppert's book 'Bangernomics', which you can probably still get on Amazon. Generally it's best not to look for a specific car but instead to look for one in good condition, one owner and a car generally shunned by the market because of its styling or because it has bumps and scrapes. You don't worry about a few scratches on a £1,000 car. You do worry about the state of the engine, clutch, gearbox brakes, etc.For any car you find, read the entry in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar to find out what specifically to look for.
