Why is my 1994 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet clicking in reverse?

My 1994 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet clicks in reverse gear. I want to take it to a garage but all the other gears are ok and I do not want to be pressured into a new gearbox. Can anybody give me an indication as to what is needed to stop it?

Missing tooth on the reverse gear.
