Volkswagen reliability?

It appears that Volkswagen has very clever marketing as millions are persuaded to buy a Golf over say an Astra or Focus every year. It's sort of a status symbol to own one. However, looking on many sites including yours it's clear that Volkswagen's aren't all that reliable. So, I ask, would you say Volkswagen cars are more reliable overall compared with say an Astra or Focus?

No more reliable than anything else. But the expectation of reliability is greater, which is why the volume of complaints is greater.
