Land Rover reliability issues?

Have Land Rover finally sorted the reliability issues that have raised concerns about many of their previous models? I am impressed by the Discovery Sport and it looks to hold it value well or for a hassle free life am I better sticking with BMW? Over the last 11 years I have had the odd issue but overall BMW have always been very impressive at looking after us. For family use and long heavily laden European trips where would you put your money, my current 520d SE auto Touring or a Discovery sport?

Apparently new orders for diesel Evoque and for Discovery Sport automatically default to the excellent new JLR 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel engine, so that's good news. The new BMW X1 was announced yesterday and is on sale in UK from October 2015. Can endorse existing comment that the grip, roadholding and ride quality of the Discovery Sport are astonishing for an SUV. Cannot tell you if problems with the Freelander II have been inherited. Too soon to say, but engines and transmissions of the Disco Sport from now are all new.
