Should I trust an accident management company to handle my insurance claim?

Recently, someone drove in to the back of my car. I then phoned to claim repairs through my insurance company. Apparently they then refer all claims and car hire to an accident management company. A couple of months down the line, a solicitor who I was unaware of wrote to me asking for them to act on my behalf to do with court proceedings. These, no doubt, would be assigned by the accident management company.

I know don't know what I need to do next, as I pay my money to my insurance company and they should have been acting on my behalf to claim the costs of repairs and car hire back. However, when I spoke to them, they told me I have been referred to the accident management company and that all the claims go through them. As I don't want to commit to something that would cost me, what should I do next?

Refuse to sign anything that leaves you liable for car hire fees if they are not paid by the other party's insurer.
