Renault 1.2 tce in a Dacia Lodgy or risk the diesel?

UK expat looking at purchasing a new car and pretty much have narrowed it down to the Dacia Lodgy (large, 7 seats, economical to own) as nothing else even comes close as a package in Hungary (esp. 2nd hand as really don't trust the market). Not having any Renault experience I was wondering whether the 1.2 Tce would be able to cope (the 1.6 is supposed to be poor)? General mixed driving, roughly 9000-12000 miles a year, including at least one trip to the UK. Keeping at least 5 years and it will be used on some pretty poor roads too. I'm not bothered about hot hatch style driving.....

The 1.2TCe works well enough in the Nissan Qashqai, so will haul the Lodgy along reasonably economically with just a driver aboard. Obviously if you load it to the roof with family and luggage it won't be as lively and I wouldn't contemplate a roof box.
