Is the Toyota Prius a reliable used car?

I am interested in cutting my car's running costs. At the moment I have a 2002 Ford Focus 1.6 petrol, which isn't great on fuel and is expensive to tax. The boot is also on the small side.

I am interested in the Toyota Prius (2005-2006 plate) because of the much cheaper tax and better fuel economy and bigger boot. However, the cars in my price range all have 100.000 plus miles and I am slightly worried about the complexity of the drivetrain. Would you recommend it as a good option or is there a possible alternative?

The Toyota Prius is very reliable indeed due to the simplicity and low stress on the engine and drivetrain, but the big expense on an older one is the battery if that requires replacement.
