Why has my Vauxhall Vectra's dual mass flywheel failed at 50,000 miles?

My Vectra's clutch assembly (including flywheel) has failed after only 50,000 miles. It would appear that if it was only the flywheel, which is a relatively common problem apparently. Vaxhall would cover this under the warranty as the car is less than three years old. However, because the clutch has also failed (although the car was still drivable when taken to the dealers) Vauxhall are refusing to cover the repair as they are saying that the clutch caused the flywheel failure. Is this a case of the chicken or the egg coming first? Has anyone else commented on this? How many cases of flywheel failure do you know about? Can I demand this information from Vauxhall under the Freedom of Information act?

It's very common with Dual Mass Flywheels generally.

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
