Receiving payment

Hello, I would like to sell my car independently - can you please advise on receiving payment? Is it normal to receive cash or bank transfers these days? Is it standard to let the buyer drive the car away after paying cash or arranging bank transfer?

The safest way remains, as Mike Brewer puts it, "Nelsons" (Nelson Eddies = 'Readies'.) Meet the purchaser in a bank where he withdraws the cash and you then immediately use his bank to deposit the cash in your bank. That way the transfer can never, ever be rescinded. And, of course, you can't get mugged walking down the street with the cash in your pocket.
