Fitting a towbar - will it invalidate my warranty?

Will fitting a towbar to a Nissan Qashqai impact the manufacturer's warranty? Does it have to be a dedicated wired version or can it be a generic?

It is illegal to fit a towbar that is not EC Type Approved for the car and has been illegal since 1998. If the towbar does not meet Nissan's Type Approved spec, it will also invalidate the warranty and could destroy the car's electrical system. So best to pay toe price and have it fitted by a Nissan dealer.
