Can I reject a car after 7 months?

Seven months ago I bought a new Land Rover Freelander 2. After about four months the electronic dash display (trip computer, fuel gauge, temperature, clock) intermittently did not light up when starting the car. After an initial look, the dealer said that it needed two days on diagnostics to deal with. This took place in and it was returned working having had a ‘software update’. The garage admitted that they had never seen the fault before.

A few days ago, it happened again and the dealer asked us to contact Land Rover Rescue who came out, saw the fault and agreed that it had to go back in. Land Rover Rescue had never seen the fault either. I am worried that it will go on diagnostics again, get another software patch, but which will fail again in the future. If so, how many time should I persist with this car or can I declare it not fit for purpose and ask for a replacement?

If it stops you driving the car you can use Clegg v Olle Andersson House of, Lords 2003 to claim that the car was faulty from delivery and you can attempt to reject it.

Yes, definitely voice your disquiet to the dealer principal of the dealership that sold you the car in writing sent by post office special deliver so it becomes a matter of record. This might scare them into sending the car back to the factory to be properly fixed. There is a small chance that they might replace the car.
