What's the best family hatchback?

I want to replace my Mazda 3 (2004). I do 10,000 miles per year, which averages about 50% on motorways. I'm retired and would like to keep the car for several years, so low running costs are important.

I’m considering a Mazda 3, Toyota Auris Hybrid and the Ford Focus EcoBoost. What is your recommendation?

The Auris hybrid will be the most economical, Focus 1.0 EcoBoost, ok, but I'd go for the more powerful of the two petrol engines in the new Mazda 3 Skyactiv. A lot of thought has gone into that car.
