Why is my Skoda Octavia going through tyres so quickly?

I own a 2005 Skoda Octavia Estate 1.9TDI 4X4. I bought the car eight months ago when it had done 44,000 miles. It has now done 62,000 miles and I have gone through three sets of rear tyres in that time. In every case the inside edge of both tyres has been worn right down almost to the wires, but the outer edge still has sufficient tread on it.

I am told Skoda had a problem with this car and needed to re-adjust the camber on the rear wheels. Is this possible and will I get back to normal tyre life after this?

It's not on the long list of faults here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/skoda/octavia-2004/?...d

So I wonder if it has been caused by straddling speed cushions. The abrasion caused by the sloping sides of these rip the inner shoulders of car tyres to bits. The cure is to drive one wheel over, one wheel on the flat.
