How should I store my Rover 45SE to avoid the battery going flat?

We have a Rover 45SE 1.6 petrol from new with 85,500 on the clock. We will be leaving the car at home for up to 17 days not garaged. The battery is two years old and the alternator is only three months old. I am concerned that when we come to use it again the battery may be flat. Is there anything I can do to prevent this happening?

Take it for a 20 mile run immediately before you leave it to charge the battery as best you can, and make sure everything is off at the switch, so radio off at the switch, interior light completely off at the switch, heater off at the switch, boot light off, glove locker light off.
