Should I buy the Audi 1.6TDI and can I fit smaller wheels to improve the ride quality?

I am thinking of changing my 2010 Volkswagen Golf 1.6TDI for an August 2012 Audi 1.6TDI Sport as I want more comfort/refinement on a long run. The only problem is that the Audi has low profile tyres that do not make for a smooth ride on country roads. Can I fit normal steel wheels with ordinary tyres? If so, what size, etc.? Do you recommend this? Alternatively, what other cars do you suggest.

All current model Audi A3s come on multilink rear suspension, but only top models of Golfs, Leons and Octavias do. Yes, you could fit 15-inch five stud steel wheels with 195/65 R15 tyres if you really wanted to, but that would devalue the car. This will seem odd, but the, most comfortable 1.6 diesel is a Mazda 5 1.6d 115 TS2 on Toyo J48 205/55 R16 tyres because it has very compliant suspension and Toyo J48s are really grippy so it rides uneven surfaces and potholes very well. Next best, the current model Ford C-Max on 205/55 R16s.
