Why did a Volkswagen dealer try to charge to fix a fault on my Gold which was solved with WD40?

The passenger side door of my Volkswagen Golf Match TDI failed to unlock, and I contacted a VW main agent who informed me that there would be an initial charge for the diagnostic check costing £60, followed by labour charges and also the possibility of having to have a new lock fitted. A colleague suggested I give the lock a squirt of WD 40 and leave it for a couple of days, and, hey-presto, job done. Need I say more?

Yes WD40 does all sorts of things. And now that greedy, short-sighted Volkswagen dealer has lost another customer. With such a rip-off franchise in your area it is inevitable that someone will have set up as independent VAG specialists to pick up the disgruntled customers who aren't stupid enough to stay with this dealer.
