What is causing my Mercedes-Benz A-Class automatic to 'growl' when slowing down?

I own a Mercedes-Benz A180 CDI Auto. The car will be three years old at the end of July 2013, and will be out of warranty after this. I am very concerned about the automatic transmission that produces a vibration/shuddering, and sometimes a low growling type sound when slowing down, on a down slope. The dealer says that this is a feature of the design, and, nothing needs to be done about it. I remain concerned about the possible future costs due to damaged transmission. Any advice would be most appreciated.

This is a CVT transmission and what you describe doesn't sound right. I'd get it to a member of www.fedauto.co.uk to check before the warranty runs out. If they find anything, pay for a report from them and confront the MB dealer.
