What should I pay for a new Mazda MX-5 and what should I expect for my 2011 Kuga?

I'm about to purchase a new Mazda MX-5 2.0-litre Venture with electric folding hardtop. I have been offered £11,500 for my August 2011 Ford Kuga (good condition), 23,000 miles. There is so much 'helpful' advice on the internet, let alone helpful advice from the salesman, that I am totally confused. Quite simply, what would be a good price to pay?

List for the Mazda is £22,000. www.drivethedeal.com might be able to get it more cheaply, but really you are buying in the peak season for convertibles, so big discounts are far less likely than they would have been three months ago. Conversely, values of 4WDs have dropped heavily from their winter peaks. There are numerous different trim levels of Kuga, but a 26,000-mile 11 reg Zetec 2.0TDCI 140PS trade books at £14,250.
