Should I buy an ex-American police Interceptor?

I am seriously considering buying an American police Interceptor Ford Crown Victoria. They are available in plain colours without all the police regalia. One reason for considering it, apart from its innate simplicity and durability, is that this model is fitted with what is termed "severe duty" suspension - excellent for our ever-deteriorating roads. I don't do a high mileage so fuel consumption is not a big issue - although I'm led to believe it's not that bad anyway. Are you aware of any overwhelming reason why such a buy might not be a good idea?

How old? Much of the New York Yellow Cab fleet is composed of ex-police cars (that's why many of them have nerf bars on the bumpers). You'll have to factor in shipping costs of around £1000 - £1500, 10 per cent EC import duty, 20 per cent UK VAT, ESVA fees, first registration charge, and probably Band M VED, which is £1065 for the first year then £490pa thereafter. And make sure it comes fitted with absorbent deep profile tyres.
