Why is one insurance company increasing premiums for drivers who have attended a speed awareness course?

A leading insurance company is to increase premiums for people who have attended speed awareness courses on the grounds that having exceeded the speed limit they are more likely to be involved in an accident. Their logic is faulty because dangerous or very fast drivers would not be offered such a course; everyone I have known acknowledges that they have learned from the course and are now better drivers. Could it be that the company's financial position is the cause?

The simple answer to that is that if you are with this company and have undertaken a speed awareness course, shop around to see if you can beat their premium, or negotiate with them to exclude any premium increase for the speed awareness course. If you are not already with them, take them off your list next time you shop around.
