Parking ticket - can I appeal?

I paid for a parking ticket at a ferry port, which was to be displayed on the dashboard (non-sticky). When I got back from a two day trip a parking charge note was attached as the ticket had slipped down the dashboard under the screen (either due to closing the door or strong overnight winds or whatever)

I have scanned the valid ticket through but have been told the appeal has been turned down. What can I do?

Simple case of failing to display and I don't think you can wriggle out of this one, even if it eventually went to court.

When paying by phone, I inputted my car reg using lower case letters. This was sufficient for POPLA to find that I had failed to pay and so issued me a parking penalty.
