Can tyres really lose 2PSI every 24-hours?

My neighbour (nice gent, mid-seventies) is forever inflating his tyres. I enquired why he had to do it so often and he assures me, that "it is normal for the tyres on this type of car to loose 2psi every 24 hours; it says so in the book". This does not sound right to me, I think he may have kerbed the wheels and needs new wheels, tyres or both. What advice can I pass on to him?

It's not right. Tyres gain and lose pressure according to ambient and generated temperature. He's trying to compensate for that. He should leave them alone and only check in the morning before the car is moved, every week or so.
