Will the Skoda Octavia Estate diesel be suitable for my seven-mile daily commute?

I’m interested in purchasing a new Skoda Octavia Estate with the 1.6 CR diesel engine, but I'm concerned whether my daily drive to work is suited to a DPF. One way, my journey is rural and about seven miles, but only one mile of this is at the national speed limit (the rest is 30 and 40 limits). Is there enough opportunity for the DPF to regenerate in this time, or would I be better off getting the 1.4 TSI petrol engine (or perhaps go for a newly new Octavia with the 1.9 PD diesel engine without a DPF)? I should note that there are opportunities for longer and faster journeys at weekends.

It sounds as though your journeys may not be suited to an an engine with a DPF. We've got an entire section on diesel particulate filters here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/diesel-particulate-filters
