Which Honda Civic engine is best - 1.6 or 2.2?

I am thinking of buying a new shape Honda Civic, question is do I go for 1.6 or 2.2? My local Honda dealer let slip that with the arrival of the new 1.6 I-DTEC "earth-dreams" engine Honda will in time no longer power the Civic with a 2.2. He remarked this is due to dual mass flywheel reliability incompatible with engine torque. What should I do?
Thanks

I'd say your Honda dealer was right. Not really much point in the 2.2 in the Civic now unless you want to tow a caravan. There was speculation about this from the launch of the 1.6iDTEC. The 1.6iDTEC is much more economical. The 2.2iDTEC doesn't do much better than thee 1.8iVTEC petrol that does about 48mpg, is cheaper to buy and is more readily available.
