Insurance company has written off my pick-up truck – can I appeal and ask them to fix it?

I recently had a none fault accident after a double decker bus hit me from behind and pushed me into the one in front. The bus that hit me has accepted responsibility, but my pick-up truck has been declared a write-off.

There is no structural damage, but the insurer says the bodywork repairs would cost more than the vehicle is worth. I’m very reluctant to scrap my pick-up as it’s an import and I have owned it for many years. Could you tell me how I could keep the vehicle and get it repaired?

If the insurer has not yet written it off you could come to an arrangement whereby they paid you the write off value minus the salvage value and left you to get it repaired. Insurers are increasingly doing this in order to get claims settled quickly without the involvement of parasitic 'accident management specialists'.
