Diagnostics or brains?

I have a SEAT Ibiza 56 reg. Can it be possible for a faulty fuse box and retainer to cause a fault with a radiator cooling fan motor and vice versa? If so, should a proper diagnostic test show up the fault and any knock-on effects?

If a test didn't go as far as it should have I'd like to get part of the diagnostics fees back from the first garage.

The fuse started blowing on the radiator cooling fan. We had a friend who drives an Ibiza check it over and his words were "faulty fan motor - need a new radiator cooling fan motor".

We took it to a reputable SEAT approved service centre telling them we think it may be a fault with the cooling fan. They checked it and told us it was the fuse box & retainer that was faulty and they made this repair.

Barely 6 months on and the fuse blew on a warm day. This time, said reputable garage were closing down so we had to go to another SEAT approved service centre who said if it is proved to be a fault with the fuse box/retainer we can fix under warranty, but if not then we have to pay again.

So this time they advised it was a faulty fan motor (!) and we had to pay again for the diagnostics.

My argument is that the diagnosis wasn't accurately made in the first place by the original Service Centre, that they only diagnosed 1/2 the problem.

I understand I'd have paid for them to repair the fuse box/retainer & cooling fan anyway, but I'd have only paid one diagnostic testing fee.

Do you think I might have an argument here?

Yes. Diagnostics have never replaced experience, skill and brains.
