How can we stop other drivers parking outside our front gates?

I live in a council house in West Yorkshire and have been given permission to make a footpath to my house, as the one that is there now is not wide enough for a twin buggy. We don't have a car or a driveway to our house, and when this is completed this will be our only access to our front door. Can we stop someone from parking in front of our gates? It is also a cul-de-sac with a turning point.

You will need to get in touch with the council to make this happen. There's nothing you can really do to make sure that no one can park there. Nothing that's legally enforceable, anyway.
