My car registration has been cloned - should I tell the police?

I've received a Parking Charge Notice in respect of a Vauxhall Corsa with identical number plates to my car, which they claim was illegally parked in Cardiff in August. I live in Hampshire and only use my Corsa as a runabout locally. I have never driven it in Wales. How should I respond, and should I involve the police?

You should inform the police that your car registration has been cloned and also write a letter to this effect to the parking enforcement agency. Tell them that if they wish to take this matter further you will see them in court where you can prove that the car was not yours and will sue for your expenses.
