Is this claims company attempting fraud?

My wife just took a phone call from someone asking about an accident in my Honda Jazz. I have not had an accident in the Jazz or my last car, which I owned for over 10 years. The man said he obtained the information from the other party’s insurance company. When questioned, he then said that it could have come from an insurance comparison website, if I had used one and not ticked a box. Then he said that it was a non-fault accident.

I am now worried that someone has claimed on my insurance. I have not phoned them yet. Or is this company just stabbing around in the dark? How do they know that I have a Honda Jazz? Also, how did they get our phone number? It is not listed in the phone book. The car is insured with Churchill, by the way.

They have bought the information from somewhere. Report the matter to your insurer and tell them you want it investigating as a possible attempted fraud. Several readers have reported claims against their insurance being paid that were completely fictitious and that they were unaware of until their premiums were bumped up on renewal.
