You recommended placing least-worn tyres on the rear wheels, contrary to my belief over many years driving. This was confirmed by a few other motorists of similar vintage. Could you please clear this matter for us on safety grounds?

It's standard advice from the Tyre Safety Council to help prevent instability when braking hard in the wet. This was demonstrated on TV by Mike Brewer. I used to think like you do. Put the best tyres on the steered wheels. But I was proved wrong.
