Are petrol companies adding 10 per cent methanol to their fuels?

Arriving in the small village of Wheaton Aston by narrowboat, I was shocked to find that the garage there had stopped selling petrol at the turn of the year. His reasoning and that of several other small independent garages in the area was that petrol companies had added 10 per cent methanol to their petrol which Turners said brought problems for storage, as methanol assimilated water quite easily and also had implications for some vehicles. Injection engines may be vulnerable. Do you have any views on this problem?

Not heard of this before, but thanks for the tip-off. We'll keep a watching brief on it.
