Do you think that Xenon headlights are too bright?

Even my son who is 14 and shoots for his army cadets (and so has good young eyesight) says he doesn't like the glare of modern Xenon headlights. Nor do I. I used to like driving at night but now it seems to have lost its sparkle with all these modern cars with their modern headlights dazzling other road users. I guess car manufacturers have again persuaded the authorities to specify them in the name of road safety, oh and increased car sales. Progress in a reverse direction in our view. What say you oh wise one?

I agree. It is a problem. The reasons are threefold: One is the brightness of the lights. The second is that they are motorised to rise and fall according to the pitch of the car, but the motors do not react quickly enough, so on a severely undulating road the lights are either pointing at the sky or at the road two metres in front of the car. The third is that the motors fail, so the bright light you can see approaching two miles behind you on the motorway is of an HID Xenon light stuck pointing upwards. Since the motorised light units usually cost £850 a side, owners don't fix them.

Most car makers offer xenon headlights as options for several hundred pounds. They do come with other gizmos e.g. turning, self levelling etc.. However one can now buy at reputable high street car part...
