What is involved in buying a European car and importing it to the UK?

If one was interested in acquiring a model only available in Europe, for example an Opel that ran on LPG, where would one begin and what difficulties would need to be overcome?

For a start, it's going to be left-hand drive because Opel does not make RHD LPG Corsas. It will only have two years warranty, as is current in Germany, and ex-factory pre-tax prices are higher in Germany than they are in the UK. Then you have to go through the rigmarole of making it legal in the UK. It's not really worthwhile. These people specialise in the legalisation process: www.sigmaautomotive.co.uk/new/home.shtml
