Do some members of the motoring press unfairly nitpick certain models?

As the very satisfied owner of a Volkswagen Passat CC GT TDI 170 for just over a year, it is hugely encouraging to find that it came out No.1 in The Which Customer Satisfaction Survey this year (and second last year). No vehicle is ever perfect but, in my view, some of the motoring press have nitpicked this car to a high degree whilst espousing the almost perfect qualities of Ford Mondeos and Focuses. I don't see either of these cars in the top ten, regardless of what the experts think. Fortunately, those of us who actually live with our cars recognise the qualities that we like and, in the case of the CC, are willing to tell the rest of the world. Clearly, I'm not taking issue with you because you report whatever is sent to you and, ultimately, for our benefit.

www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ has more information based on real people's experience than anything else. Over the last year, the Mondeo from 2007 and Focus from 2008 have remained the most searched cars in their classes at www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/ and for cars that have sold in large numbers have remained relatively reliable and problem free.

These are not 'expert opinions'. These are real people's real experiences. They are confirmed by the hard cash data in Warranty Direct's analysis of its own warranty claims. The 2005 - 2011 Passat was eighth from bottom, whereas the 2007 - 2011 Mondeo was eighth from top. Your 2008 - 2011 Passat CC is a much better car with many of the faults of the 2005 Passat rectified. The current Passat and CC should be better still.
