How best should I hire a car for driving in Spain and France?

I am hiring a car through Ryanair in May for 10 days for driving in Spain and France. There is a large excess payable should one be involved with a claim. Rather than take out super cover, which is very expensive, I have heard from a friend that Insurance4carhire.co.uk is a reliable company. I would appreciate your comments.

You can use www.insurance4carhire.co.uk but the consequence might be the hire company 'finding' damage it would not have found, had you take out its own excess insurance. The golden rule is always to go over the car before accepting it, with the rep and the sheet and a fine toothcomb, photographing any damage. Then, it is absolutely vital to arrive back at the airport early for your return flight so there is plenty of time to go through the same process again. Never ever return a hire car in a rush.
