Confused about which car to buy - can you help?

I am one of those guys who do tons of research before buying a car, yet always regret the choice within few weeks. I have owned five cars and it happened five times.

I value comfort, smooth ride, luxury and super quite motorway cruising. I just accepted a new job where I need a car to do. I expect to average 15000 miles a year. I have a budget of £15,000 and want an automatic car to keep for two years. I want one thing: maximum of three years old.

I am considering Mercedes C-class, BMW 3 Series, Volvo S60. I love the Ford Kuga, which I recently drove in the USA, I used to own a jetta which I liked but thought suspension was stiff, and recently a colleague suggested a mini clubman for economy.

Any suggestions what to go for? Other option you might think of? Which engine to go for - diesel or petrol?

For comfort and a smooth ride it needs to be on 195/65 R15 tyre or 205/60 R16s or at worst 205/55 R16s. Yes, probably a Mercedes C200CDI or C220CDI Classic SE. Do not go for the higher trim levels because they come on lower profile tyres.
