Which used supermini for £7000-£8000

This is the first time I've bought a car in 10 years and I'm stumped!

I can spend between £7-8000. I need a 5-door, 5-seat car that will be used for mainly 20-mile round trips during the working week and longer motorway runs of about 120 miles round trip once or twice a week. Fuel consumption is really important to me but I'm not sure whether to go for petrol or diesel.

I plan to buy a car that I will keep for as long as possible rather than selling in a few years.

Cars that I'm drawn to are the Mazda2, Chrysler Ypsilon, Toyota Yaris and Fiat Punto. This is mainly because I am just under 5ft and find many cars too large inside to be comfortable. What make, model and trim would you recommend?

Mazda 2 1.3TS2, preferably a more recent one because the tax went down from £100 to £30.
